За названием Rushhour скрываются два молодых музыканта из Петербурга. Zool и
Vir, как они сами себя именуют, вышли из хип-хоп культуры и уличного искусства.
Долгое время они занимались граффити в коллективе FSRcrew, параллельно
осваиваясь с технологией создания музыки. Их музыкальные вкусы
формировались под влиянием продукции лейблов Warp, Rephlex и Ninja Tune –
главным своим героем оба без колебаний называют Aphex Twin. Zool и Vir начинали
с IDM и clicks & cuts, однако постепенно интерес к экспериментальным жанрам
перерос в увлечение танцевальной музыкой. Их сегодняшние работы нередко
сравнивают с Metro Area - музыка Rushhour приходится по вкусу и любителям
электро, и тем, кто предпочитает хаус, ну и, разумеется, адептам современного
диско. Нынче взоры Зула и Вира обращены в сторону фанка и диско. "Наш кумир
последних десяти лет – Херби Хэнкок", говорит Zool, "вот чья музыка никогда не
устареет".
Житель Роттердама Мартин Хугендайк, ныне известный как Alden Tyrell (псевдоним
Мартин позаимствовал у героя культового фильма "Blade Runner"), проделал
похожий путь в музыке. В конце девяностых он записывал экспериментальную
электронику в составе дуэта EOG и успел заработать себе имя в IDM-тусовке - среди
его издателей были влиятельные лейблы Djak-Up-Bitch, n5MD и Toytronic. Начав
записываться сольно, Тайрелл увлекся сначала жестким электро, а затеем и диско. В
этой ипостаси голландец и добился наибольшего успеха. Ему удалось не только
воссоздать в своей музыке дух и звучание полузабытого итало-диско, но и поднять
этот жанр на новый уровень. Сегодня Тайрелл – ключевая фигура итало-ренессанса,
одного из ярчайших явлений европейской клубной сцены двухтысячных. Сегодня
его пластинки издают лейблы Clone, Viewlexx, Moustache, Frustrated Funk, а среди

Like the best club stages of the world, Shanti is not only holds under its roof live performances of the best musicians, but also acts as a publisher. The label Shanti Records was founded in the summer of 2008. For the musical format was chosen regularly voiced in our club soft intelligent techno and aesthetic house, as well as a carrier, it is extremely rare for domestic publishers vinyl records. As the first explorer was chosen German David Mufang, also known as Move D, a legendary man, he published earlier his records on labels such as Warp, Plug Research Compost, City Centre Offices, the one of the founders of ambient techno and longtime friend of the club Shanti. Moscow’s audience had a really fancy for him; he visited the club as a DJ and with solo live performance and having duet with Benjamin Bruno. David even was called a resident of Between Us, series of techno parties, where he headlined several times. Love was mutual – he liked our capital, and his record for Shanti Records he named in honor of cozy techno parties. Release of such an artist was destined for success. The Vinyl by Move D called Between Us immediately appeared in a number of European shops, got a good press, and even hit the charts in the authoritative German edition «Groove».
By the second release Shanti Records set a new height and at that time, the label issued a record of a young artist of Russia. Native of Severodvinsk, now living in St. Petersburg Kuzma «Kausto» Palkin is one of the brightest talents of domestic techno-scene. Kuzma is a multifaceted man: for one Kausta is known as the designer, others like his cosmic disco (in this role he calls himself Audiocad), but back then the musician prefered techno. In the dynamic, but full of lightness and elegance of dance rhythms Kuzma deftly builds gloomy deep chords, atmospheric, mysterious bottom layers and the substrate jazz saxophone. In addition to the original version, on the record presented two remixes, one from Jan Jelinek, the main star of the Berlin label ~ Scape, this time he appeared in the dance incarnation under the name of Farben.

There's no shame in admitting that a release might catch your eye for
the simple reason that curiosity was piqued by the unique name, or it
houses a remix from a certain producer. Indeed, for the elder record
buyers amongst us, stumbling upon an unknown pleasure via this tactic
was one of the real highlights of a crate digging session. In the case of
Moogie from Rushhour it is both of the above that lead to this review.
With such a distinctive name housing a remix from Alden Tyrell,
immediate thoughts were this was a slice of forgotten electro from the
80s that was inspiration for the Amsterdam shop and label of the same
name. The sort of record that labels such as Clone and Creme
Organisation seem particularly brilliant in discovering and releasing.
Naturally – as with so many blind assumptions in music – that couldn't be farther from the truth! Rushhour are in fact two disco loving graffiti artists from St Petersburg called Zool & Vir who may well take their name from the aforementioned Dutch emporium of musical greatness, or indeed in honour of the cinematic tour de force starring Messrs Chan and Tucker. Regardless, Moogie is a startling debut release for the duo, presenting a sound rich in analogue warmth, occupying that crowded space between contemporary disco and house productions but with enough personality and verve to separate it from the chaff. Everything about the title track impresses, a production filled with thrilling key stabs and moog flourishes, working through different movements to a taut backdrop of throwback geetar funk and hand clap lead percussion. Clone don Alden Tyrell seems a perfect fit to remix the track – indeed he even mastered the whole EP – and he expertly twists "Moogie" filling it with waves of synth euphoria that grab you from take off. It’s a mark of Rushhour’s auspicious talent that their productions do not cower in the shadows of Tyrell’s towering presence, with the innate confidence and quirkiness demonstrated on the opening track carried throughout. "Ultradancin’" seems to slip between glacial electroboogie, vintage Metro Area and Legowelt style synth freakouts with nonchalant ease, whilst "Cosmico" settles into an almost haunting melodic refrain before mutating into an ascendant futuristic Detroit groove filled with glisten and sheen. In an internet-centric climate where instant music knowledge is but a Discogs check away it’s all too rare for an unknown record to grab you so hard, but it’s truly an exhilarating feeling when it happens. 5 Magazine
Shanti Records has been building up their rep with some superb vinyl
and digital releases, most notably Rick Wade's The Mack of Moscow
over the summer (Shanti and its sister label, Between Us, are based in
Russia).
"Moogie", Shanti's latest release, runs the gamut. The original mix of the title track is a fantastic funk jam with a neat little jitterbug groove floating over the top. It's in the area between a throwback electro tune (I know that's a seriously loaded word in this day and age, but it should be clear that when I use the word "electro" without the word "cheesy" preceding, I'm talking about the good, '80s variety) and Nu Disco - playable by either, and with enough polish to make it into a set of slow jams or downtempo as well. Alden Tyrell's remix will probably be called "Italo" but just goes overboard with the syruppy synths. The rest - the Moroderish "Ultradancin'" and groovy bass-driven "Cosmico" - definitely stand out in a genre that's already being overrun with cheap knock-offs, and are worth parting with your filthy lucre. Jacksonville's ultra deep mix of "Cosmico" in particular was a pretty nifty discovery - apparently he's a cat from Edinburgh, UK and... that's all I know, other than that he has some lovely remixes on his soundcloud page. If your tastes lead more to the deep stuff than disco, don't let this mix slip by ya.

TRIPMASTAZ — PARALLELZ

заработали себе имя куда раньше, чем в России. Его дискография насчитывает
дюжину виниловых и цифровых релизов, изданных на швейцарском Morris/Audio,
британском U-Freqs, испанском Regular. В Соединенных Штатах Андрею
покровительствует DJ Sneak – Гайворонский попал в узкий круг избранных, кого
чикагский хаус-ветеран подписал на на свой Magnetic Records (в основном Сник
издает там свои собственные пластинки). А среди ди-джеев, играющих треки
Tripmastaz в своих сетах, числятся Martin Landsky, Shlomi Aber, KiNK, Mazi, Davide
Squillace, Marc Romboy и даже сам Лоран Гарнье. Музыкальный кругозор Андрея
чрезвычайно широк (в его послужном списке есть, например, участие в
интернациональной хип-хоп формации A Step Ahead Productions), однако в сольном
творчестве Tripmastaz неизменно верен хаусу и техно.
"Parallelz", свежий релиз Tripmastaz, изданный Shanti Records, можно охарактеризовать как грубый и сырой, но мастерски отточенный дип-хаус. Это редкий пример клубной музыки, в которой душа доминирует над технологией: на этой пластинке правят бал тёплый фанковый грув, свингованные ритмы и томные синтезаторные аккорды, а век цифровых технологий будто бы и не наступил. Буквально каждый трек пропитан влиянием хаус-классики конца 80-х – начала 90-х. В заглавной композиции "Parallelz", представленной сразу в двух версиях, появляются игривые джазовые нотки, трек "My Music" полон летними диповыми вибрациями и гипнотическим речитативом. А в финале верх берет пост- модернистская ирония – задорная вещица "Sweet Blues" при ближайшем рассмотрении оказывается переработкой темы из мультфильма "Голубой Щенок". Так, наверное, звучала бы эта двусмысленная песенка, если бы Юрий Энтин жил где-нибудь в Майями, водил дружбу с хаус-продюсерами и был бы завсегдатаем гей-вечеринок.

With “My Music” you get a dirty jazz house feel with a touch of tech house in the mix, “Sweet Blues” brings out the hip hop in all of us and gets house up like real house gangsters can do, good traxx solid all around.

RICK WADE — THE MACK OF MOSCOW
Четвертый релиз Shanti Records пополнил список легендарных артистов, входящих
в обойму лейбла. Теперь к немецкой легенде, отцу эмбиент-техно Дэвиду Муфангу
добавился североамериканский мэтр дип-хауса Рик Уэйд. Уэйд родом из штата
Мичиган, крупнейшим городом которого, напомним, является Детройт. Поэтому
вкусы юного Рика формировали местные радиостанции, в первую очередь
чикагская WBMX, где в тот момент звучали соул, фанк и диско. Сегодня в Детройте
трудно найти клуб, за вертушками которого не побывал бы Рик - когда речь заходит
о современном американском хаусе, его имя приходит в голову одним из первых.
Однако Уэйд не сменил родной андерграунд на жизнь в блеске софитов и по-
прежнему остаётся фигурой непубличной. Его чаще можно встретить в эфире
пиратских радиостанций от Лондона до Перта, чем на страницах масс-медиа или в
диджейской будке клубов-тысячников. Его дискография насчитывает почти
полсотни релизов, изрядная доля которых издана на его собственном Harmonie
Park.
Трехтрековая ЕР на Shanti Records, получившая название "The Mack Of Moscow" это фирменный уэйдовский дип-хаус – мягкий, обволакивающий и меланхоличный, и в то же время полный движения. Это клубная музыка для камерных площадок, неторопливая, тёплая и уютная. Фирменная черта Рика Уэйда – умение сочетать современную хаус ритм-секцию с элементами музыки семидесятых, героями его детства были Isaac Hayes, Al Green и Curtis Mayfield. Басовые партии напоминают о фанке, перкуссия – о латиноамериканских ритмах, флейты и сэмплированные струнные – о диско, или даже о саундтреках к старым кинолентам. Пластинка в самом деле вышла очень кинематографичной – эта музыка сама собой рождает визуальные образы, не без труда различимые в приглушенном свете, но загадочные и от этого еще более привлекательные.

bigger hits, others to greater versatility, but surely Wade stands on
a par with anyone when it comes to consistency. Rarely straying
from his formulaic safe-haven when producing deep house,
longevity has been achieved through quality rather than vision,
and to boast a discography as unfalteringly rich in melody is—
homogeny aside—no mean feat. Unsurprisingly, then, his new EP
for Shanti is pretty classic.
Perhaps it's the attention to detail that allows Wade to keep sounding fresh. There's a lingering attack on the third of every four bass hits in "Need You Back," for example, that is the anchor of his arrangement. It's subtle, but it's the bridge between the track's conflicting melancholy and cheer: blue chords and an upbeat rhythm engulfed in union by one deep whoosh. It's a playful juxtaposition, and one which is exploited further in "Big Score." The beats are once again stomping, the melody achingly shimmy, but that semi-staccato bass is unmistakably light-hearted, preventing an over-indulgence of emotion for what is, in fact, highly efficacious house music. Despite losing some of the edge on final track, "Pleasure Craft," which—though not completely without its cowbell-infused charms— veers a step too far into lounge territory, it's very much business as usual for Wade on The Mack of Moscow, and long may it remain so. de:bug Auf “Big Score” hat die Bassdrum soviel Raum, dass man sie
vermutlich, einmal in einem passenden Club gehort, noch bis nach
Hause nimmt. Und dazu dann dieser smooth soulige Vibe, tief
eingebettet in den schweren Sound. Machtig, aber dabei extrem
feinsinnig. Einer der besten Wade-Tracks uberhaupt. “Need You
Back” rockt direkter und mit einer sanft discoiden Note, und
“Pleasure Craft” segelt eher smooth durch den Raum, aber immer
bleibt es extrem deep und voller schermutiger Stimmung. Moskau
mal wieder.

модных клубов, бессменный участник мероприятий
"Triller" "Idle Conversation" и множества других угарных клубных сериалов. Его
дебютная соло пластинка "Galaxis", это стопроцентное спейс-диско: мягкое,
мелодичное и полное ретроградской романтики. Ровная пульсация синтетического
баса, чуточку фанкового слэпа, едва слышная гитара и множество космических
клавишных соло по заветам итальянских диско-продюсеров эпохи Джорджио
Мородера. Помимо заглавного трека и композиции "White
Clothes" (инструментальной версии диско-ремикса для группы БИ-2) на пластинку
вошел и ремикс трека Galaxis, сделанный Питом Хербертом – системообразующим

Вторым релизом «Шанти рекордс» издал пластинку молодого российского артиста.
Обитающий ныне в Петербурге уроженец Северодвинска Кузьма «Kausto» Палкин –
один из ярчайших талантов отечественной техно-сцены. Кузьма – человек многих
талантов: одним Каусто известен как дизайнер, другие любят его космическое
диско (в этой ипостаси он называет себя Audiocad), а на этот раз музыкант отдаёт
предпочтение техно. В динамичные, но полные легкости и изящества
танцевальные ритмы Кузьма ловко встраивает сумрачные диповые аккорды,
таинственные атмосферные подложки и пронзительный джазовый саксофон.
Помимо оригинальной версии на пластинке представлены и два ремикса, один из
которых принадлежит перу главной звезды берлинского лейбла «~Scape» - самого

Moment an mit einer klaren Bestimmung in Richtung
Eigenwilligkeit. Ruffe Bassline der dennoch eine Warme nicht
abgeht, kratzige spleenige aber weit im Hintergrund liegende
Soundeffekte, slammende Beats die fur ein gewisses Oldschoolflair
sorgen, aber dennoch frisch bleiben und dann vollig unerwartet
jazzige Momente die den Himmel weit aufmachen. Brillanter Track.
Die Remixe kommen von Cylindro in krabbeligem Dub der weit
genug vom Original entfernt ist, dass man ihn gleich danach spielen
konnte, und wer hatte gedacht, dass Farben auf einmal wieder
auftaucht mit einem Remix? Sensationell durch und durch.

Records был основан летом 2008-го года Романом Филипповым, известным также
под псевдонимом FILQ. В качестве музыкального формата были выбраны регулярно
звучащие в нашем клубе мягкое интеллигентное техно и эстетский хаус, а в
качестве носителя – крайне редкие для отечественных издателей виниловые
пластинки.
Пилотом-первопроходцем лейбла стал немец Дэвид Муфанг, он же Move D – человек-легенда, ранее издававший пластинки на лейблах Warp, Plug Research, Compost, City Centre Offices, один из основоположников эмбиент-техно и давний друг клуба «Шанти». ist von Beginn an alles in dieser Weichzeichnung des Grooves
gefangen und schwebt uber breite rauschige Flachen, flusternde
Stimmen und breite Chords immer tiefer in dieses Gefuhl hinein, das
immer alles gut ist einfach weil es ist. Und auch der pushigere “Lush
Summer Rain” Track hat diese magische Intensitat vom ersten
Moment an, die einen das Stuck wahrnehmen lasst wie einen Raum

recalling the succinct house vibes of Quit Quittin’, a nearly flawless
release from last February. While Between Us does not quite have
the same touch as that EP, it boasts two fantastic sunrise cuts that
exemplify what Mufti does best: humble, contemplative house.
As a punchy track that grows increasingly ethereal throughout, “Lush Summer Rain” will affect your DJ set in a manner quite fitting to its title. Its driving bassline and persistent drums give the opening a feeling of urgency, but through dubby smears and delicate keys, the vibe ascends toward something euphoric. A gently curving synth line seals the deal, making this the kind of track you just have to close your eyes to. The bass kicks drops out for a solid minute of the outro, allowing the reverb-laden percussion to float elegantly across your next track. It is subtle, effective and emotionally evocative—doubtlessly the winner of the EP. “Between Us” follows suit, but more daringly approaches cheesy bliss. The spectrum is a bit more crowded than on the A-side, with warped vocal snippets, sustained organ tones and twinkling jazz pianos joining the party. While “Lush Summer Rain” has a tone of wonder and melancholy, “Between Us” nurtures that special afterhours optimism, a la Larry Heard’s ‘Sun Can’t Compare.’ The ASide accomplishes more with less, but both create a cool, refreshing atmosphere. Hazy, affectionate, and absolutely clubbable; this EP might deserve a 5 if only it stood out more boldly from Move D’s remarkable oeuvre. Pulse Radio When one thinks of the cities filled with rich electronic music
history, Heidelberg isn’t exactly the first one that comes to mind,
much less the first one in Germany. A beautiful little city of just
under 150,000 people, it's known for its castles and scenery. It's
also where acclaimed producer David Moufang AKA Move D began
making a name for himself in the mid 1990s with his own Source
Records. With releases on Warp, liebe*detail, Compost, and Philpot
over the last 15 years, Moufang continues to stay relevant, most
notably with 2008’s experimental-house collaboration with
Benjamin Brunn, Songs from the Beehive. Between Us is the first
release on the Moscow-based Shanti Records, affiliated with the
club of the same name.
The title track seems to be the winner here, a mid-tempo jam that effortlessly bounces through more variation than most of the deep house tracks being released at present. The subtle touches of the piano, shaker, and the quick vocal sample are dropped infrequently amidst the waves of a glassy synth punch. The bass pushes the song along when it needs to, but takes a step back, always at the right time. This is production as its finest, masterfully crafted to be served up on the dance-floor, but also providing the casual listener something new on every listen. Lush Summer Rain, a somewhat mellower, darker counterpart, is afflicted with a very distorted and noisy handclap, but recovers via the use of a lively synth bass-line amidst a wash of what one suspects is meant to sound like rain. The efforts can be heard in trying to create an interesting composition, but as a whole the pieces don’t push the track to any climax, nor does it really push it to anything at all. It would be a stretch for either of these tracks to be found burning up a dance-floor, but Move D’s brand of deep house has never meant to drive stadium ravers wild. Both tracks serve as fascinating listens, lessons of finely tuned production from a man who has continued to keep the Heidelberg on the map in the electronic music world.
